Adieu 2013, bonjour 2014

Keeping with the theme of the new year, I stumbled across a questionnaire on Whipped Style which seemed fitting as it was about new year's resolutions. So, here are (some of) my resolutions

In Memoriam

D
ear 2013,

Even though you are no more, I will always think back and treasure our shared memories. You brought me many laughs, joys and a few tears. Nothing that was too hard to handle, though.
You brought many new friends into my life, all of whom I am incredibly grateful for.
You robbed me of my very last money during your last days, clawing them with you in your dying breath - which is why I'm not overtly displeased with having bid you goodbye and welcomed 2014 and it's January sales. I will still look back sometimes, on some of our great moments together.

The Unbearable Unpleasantness of Being (a Mostly-Perfectionist)

Via Tumblr (please contact me if you know who to credit)

Sometimes life just hits you in the face - it all goes to hell and if you, like me, are a perfectionist (of any sort) it can hit you extra hard. The thing is, most of us perfectionists do not expect everyone to fall into our idea of perfection- I could care less if my friend burnt her roast dinner but if it would happen at my own mistake though, I would never forgive myself. Even to this day I can still mentally kick myself for burning a piece of toast I was making for my mother's birthday ten years ago.

Thank you!

just wanted to thank you if you're reading my blogposts and send you lots of love, since I know I've been quite inconsistent. I could blame it on the lack of time I currently have, since all my time is divided between studying and living, but that's not really fair. I do have time on the computer as well, it's just that nothing significantly noteworthy has happened. Besides starting university again and actually finding it abnormally hard to just keep along (Chinese). So I'm just focusing really hard and blogging is something I want to do, but I just never feel like I have that much to say. If you just want to see something, try checking my tumblr or my polyvore. I've been updating them quite a lot.
As always, I will try to find something interesting to say and, hopefully, it will be interesting to read as well.

Thank you again for reading, I hope you had a fantastic weekend!
- C.

Truffles

Last time (as well as the first) I visited London, I bought these amazing little truffle boxes. I rarely get to taste such small luxuries, so I was a bit skeptical at first. Not only is the price tag a bit steep, but I've never really loved chocolate and I never really fancied myself a chocolate girl. I'm much more of crème brulée, pana cotta or lemon-y girl (I have a serious addiction to lemons - I can't get enough of it!).
In spite of this, and because of the pretty packaging, I gave these a shot.

Also, this is happening tonight

I've just returned home from one-and-a-half month trip to NY. As always, I fell in love with the city and all of the impressions. I didn't do everything I wanted, but I sure did a lot of things I didn't set out to do, which ended in good times. All in all, I had a fantastic time and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. But for now, I must admit that it is good to be home. One of the things I bought was a vinyl of Jack White's album "Blunderbuss" - so of course I had to listen to it the day I got home. I've heard it before (on repeat on spotify!), but it feels good owning things I really adore.  I can recommend it to everybody! Seriously, RUN out and get it, ladies and gentlemen - it is that good.

Thank you!
- C.

Kartofler, Potatoes, Potatis

One of the absolute best things of summer: potatoes.
I am not talking about the regular, large and grainy potatoes - you know, the ones where you overcook them and they taste like mushy dirt. Oh no, I'm talking about the freshly dug, small monstrosities that have an ugly exterior but is a superior potato in every way that is possible.

They see me strolling, they're hating.

I haven't been able to find my camera lately, so unfortunately I have not been able to upload pictures of my recent purchases. I suspected to go on a shopping spree when I was in New York, but instead I kept it simple and bought items that will (hopefully) be in my wardrobe for many years. Except, of course, the nailpolish spree I went on. This doesn't count - does it?

Busy

Picture found here
I can't quite say, that I haven't had a lot of time on my hands recently. My only excuse for not blogging these days, is that there is not quite much to blog about. I have been relaxing, reading, playing games and eating. On top of the list is sleeping, though. So there is not much to report, other than this is the time I love the most. The holidays were you can just recharge your batteries and not care if you haven't taken a shower, since you're not about to go outside and meet people. I love days where one doesn't have anything to worry about, other than what you're going to make for lunch.
The only thing I have really been doing, is planning my New Year's outfit.

NYC in instagram

Hello again!
I'm incredibly tired, so I'm going to a bit lazy and just update you on my trip by using the instagram pictures I took there.

Leaving on a jetplane

I am leaving for a destination I hold very dear, in a week! It's very exciting and I can't get it out of my mind - I miss it since I haven't been there for years!

Styling tips from a 6-year old.

I'm not shy to admit that I do like dressing up and being well, an adult female. I do enjoy putting on a little something special underneath my clothes and feel a bit sexy. I will also admit, though, that when I saw the Zara Kids Lookbook for November, I just didn't feel like being an adult anymore. I mean, look at this kid! Could she be more awesome?

Bon Anniversaire

The placement cards, a variation of the standard origami crane.
I attended my father's birthday the other night. It was his 50th, so he decided it was about time to "bring out the big guns" and have a feast. We hired a chef and enjoyed a fantastic 11-course meal. I will try to remember all of the courses as well as I can, but there may be mistakes (sorry).
I would also like to apologize in advance for the somewhat horrible quality of these photos (with the exception of the caviar pictures), but I still wanted to share some good food (and wine) with you! I also didn't take photos of the first three (and all of the champagne as well!)  courses, which is a real shame - we had oysters that were to die for!

Walks

I really enjoy taking walks with my dogs, especially in autumn weather, so I decided to do just that the other day.

A Few Things

These are just some of my things, but they are also those of my things I use, or look at, the most. So of course, this would make them my favorite things. I do have other favorite things, that I don't use that often, like the ring my mother gave to me when I was 18, which I don't use fairly often and such. But these things are almost always around me.

My Hermès bracelet. I have been wearing this ever since I got it. It was actually this bracelet that made me start wearing gold, seeing as I always thought of myself as a "silver girl". I'm still getting used to wearing gold, but now I've stopped wearing silver. Maybe someday, I will get comfortable with mixing my precious metals. Alas, I have not yet.

Movember Wear

November wear #3
November wear #3 by unemelancoliepeu featuring clutch bags
I've geeked out "polyvoring" today, to celebrate my new-found pseudo freedom from hydrogeology.
These sets I've made, are some I wouldn't mind wearing this Movember (if only I had the money). Have you guys heard about this before? Quite an honorable and amusing cause. I wouldn't want to shave my beard, though. I've been growing it out for 20+ years now, I can't just cut all of that off! The beforementioned was a joke, by the way.

Start

I have been doing few things other than studying these past days. What I have been doing, though, are things that I love. Things like taking walks in the forest and tying up roses (so they may air dry).

I cannot even begin to describe how much I love autumn weather. It's fantastic when the air (and leaves) is crisp, refreshing and yet kind of warm at the same time. The leaves that turn from green, to a dull moss-green and then to turn into a dozen of vivid hues of yellow and orange. It touches my heart in a special way, a way that reminds me of the "hyggelige" days to come. "Hygge" is exactly what I think of, when I think of autumn. The closest translation for this word would be cozy, but it's so much more than that. It's the way people have rosy cheeks, they way we smile at a complete stranger, the way you can spend an entire day watching things that you won't remember the following day with your closest companions. To me, autumn is synonymous with "hygge".

Plans

I'm planning a few posts, that will show up later this week. Thank you!
